Each way Trixies
An each way Trixie is 8 bets: the four win bets plus the same four on the place part. Two selections that only place still pay a place double, so you can get a return without a winner.
Trixie or Patent?
A Patent uses the same three selections but adds a single on each, making 7 bets. It costs almost twice as much, but one winner is enough for a return. The Trixie is the cheaper choice when you expect at least two of your selections to win.
Common questions
How much does a Trixie cost?
Four times your stake. A £1 Trixie costs £4, and an each way Trixie is 8 bets, so £8 at £1 a bet.
What happens if one selection is a non-runner?
It counts as odds of 1. The doubles that include it become singles on the other selection, and the treble becomes a double.
Does a Trixie pay out with one winner?
No. Every bet in a Trixie is a double or a treble, so you need at least two winners. If you want a return from one winner, a Patent adds three singles.
